Ownership and control

Media conglomerate research 1) Type up your  research notes  from the lesson - what did you find out about your allocated media conglomerate? Selection of companies: Alphabet,  The Walt Disney Company,  National Amusements,  Meta,  News Corp,  Time Warner, Comcast. If you were absent or didn't have time in the lesson to make these notes, research  any one  of the companies above and find examples of all the terminology outlined in the notes at the start of this blogpost. National Amusements Conglomerate ownership What brands, companies or media products is the conglomerate best known for? They are known for  Nickelodeon, Nickelodeon JR, Smithsonian channel, CMT, MTV, Comedy Central, Paramount (+), Pluto TV, Showtime, CBS, BET, Viacom CBS, TV land, CNET. Vertical and  Horizontal integration What examples can you find of vertical or horizontal integration for this conglomerate? Remember, for vertical integration you are looking for companies linked through the chain of production.

Audience theory 2

Theory questions and your opinion 1) Social learning theory has been criticised for simplifying the causes of violence in society. Do you think the media is responsible for anti-social behaviour and violence? I believe that social media is partially responsible  for the act of violent behaviour portrayed by children. Many kids browse the internet and many different platforms where they are exposed to a variety of content where they learn and copy people actions due to their un developed brain.       2) How is social learning theory relevant in the digital age? Are young people now learning behaviour from social media and the internet? Give examples. In the digital age, technology  and social media has evolved where everyone can asses whatever they need. Young people are able to learn violent behaviours from platforms such as TikTok where many people perform dangerous stunts or commit violent acts. These are easily learned by young kids who don't know right from wrong performing t

Audience theory 1

  1) Read this  Mail Online article about the effects of videogames . How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model? The audience takes in information  passively without asking this can be seen through the article where kids take in the violent impact of Videogames making it seem as addictive and dangerous  towards their healthy. 2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone  criticise  this front page?  The article shows that the teenager played and was very interested in  high violent videogames. Using the hyper dermic needle theory we can see that the producer targeted passive consumers. This 15 year old teen seems to be the targeted consumer who has fallen into the producers trap. 3) What do  you  think of the hypodermic needle theory? Do audiences believe everything they see in the media? The hypodermic needle is less believable now in the modern age with a range of new techno
